Welcome to the Solera at Stallion Mountain Neighborhood Watch Program

Who are we?

The Neighborhood Watch (NW) program is part of a national organization. At Solera, NW is independent and is not a club or committee. By way of explanation, there are legal and Insurance HOA issues being part of a national organization, so we cannot be directly associated with the HOA.

Occasionally, we hear of break-ins but according to the Las Vegas Metro Police on Harmon, we live in one of the safest communities in Las Vegas. We are residents who help each other by reporting suspicious and/or illegal activities to the police. Every person is expected to know how to do this. We all live here and don’t “join.” As a neighbor and resident, you just “are.”

Our motto is “Neighbors helping Neighbors.” One of the ways we help is by gathering and sharing information on safety issues and tips on how to remain safe. We have an informal relationship with the Metro Las Vegas Police Department. We also gather and share common sense safety tips from different sources, including Solera residents. We encourage you and your neighbors to share real world advice. We also share information on situations when we acquire credible information regarding incidents and alerts in the neighborhood. This information may come from our block captains, published Police Reports or directly from residents. Sharing this information may help residents in minimizing risk going forward.

How does NW Work?

NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH MISSION STATEMENT

The mission of Solera Neighborhood Watch is to provide residents with a liaison (Block Captain) to whom they can report suspicious activity. Block Captains also keep residents informed of crime related incidents in the community. A secondary mission is to work toward creating a safe and secure environment for all residents.

GOALS

  1. To work toward helping make and maintain Solera as a safe and secure community.
  2. To offer residents a liaison (Block Captain) to discuss and report suspicious activity in the community and other safety and security concerns.
  3. To inform Solera residents via Block Captains of pertinent safety, security, and crime information within Solera.
  4. To conduct timely safety and security events for the community such as Security Fairs, visits by police officers and crime specialists and more.
  5. To maintain an up-to-date roster of Solera Block Captains and residents by block.
  6. To recruit additional block captains with the aim of having every block in Solera have a block captain.
  7. To increase community awareness, help enhance individuals’ power of observation, and to encourage mutual assistance and concern among neighbors to reduce crime.
  8. To develop a neighborhood action program where neighbors help each other by watching each other’s home and reporting suspicious activity.
  9. To offer residents resources to help them make their home more secure. (Most crimes are opportunistic and can be reduced or removed by simple crime prevention techniques).
  10. To help educate residents about safety and security.
  11. To communicate information regarding all safety and security issues through the Solera Today webpage and the Solera Independent Facebook.

Our Neighborhood Watch is served by two co-coordinators and a Block Captain for each of our 29 streets (although at this time, there is still a need for Block Captains.)

Block Captains do not need to live on the street they serve, although it is preferable.

How Can You Help?

  • Become a Block Captain on a street without one.
  • Learn about safety in your home.
  • Ask police to do a safety check for your home.
  • Keep your eyes and ears open and report suspicious activity even if you are not a Block Captain. Tell your Block Captain about it with details.
  • Be proactive in crime prevention.
  • Attend safety and other meetings to improve communication about safety.
  • Believe that police and community working together can make a difference, and become involved and participate.
  • Focus on preventing crime in a respectful manner, demonstrating that everyone matters.
  • Recognize that crime prevention can only be realized with the involvement of us as informed citizens in our neighborhood.
  • Remember: citizens should never intervene on the illegal issues they observe or come across. Trained law enforcement should be the ones to act.
  • A citizen is the eyes and ears; law enforcement is hands and feet.
